From the backseat of the car one day, came the nearly audible ping of a light bulb turning on: “Hey! I know what we can write a song about. Baking a cake!” (Parents in the front seat exchanged a mutual “she’s genius!” glance.)
You see, cake had been very much on the mind of one 3+ year old. With the onset of a full-fledged social calendar of birthday parties, she had come to know all about cake, in all its infinite variations. Oh, the revelation that such a thing existed!
Cut to the muffin baking scene in the kitchen a day or two later. Mommy and daughter are up to elbows in flour, cinnamon, and so forth. We measure our next ingredient: “half a cup of sugar”. And there was the opening line for the chorus of what eventually came to be Love Makes Life So Sweet.
When we got to the piano after muffins got into the oven, that melody came to life, feeling like it had been handed to us by Cole Porter and …*that* was fun!
Love Makes Life So Sweet remains a favorite around here because of how it came about, and the fact that the title is pretty the summation of life with aforementioned kid. update: kiddo now 4 years old.
We hope you enjoy this months free song Love Make Life So Sweet!

In our genre, the feeling of ‘sun and fun’ lights up most songs. True enough for most tracks on our cd, Wanna Play?. However, there are a couple of songs that seem to take us to another season, another time, and Mad About You, is one that does just that. When I lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, I lived in an art deco high rise and I’d often imagine what it was like in the topsy-turvy, whirling energy of City in the 1920s. We hope you enjoy this month’s free song.
